Amina Benbouchta is a painter born in 1963 in Casablanca. After her degree in anthropology in Montreal, she continued courses in various drawing, lithography and engraving workshops in Paris.
The artist has charted a unique path in the landscape of contemporary Moroccan art. She pursues both the path of painting with its tradition and its strict codes and at the same time developed work on the creation of volume or space.
Her creations draw from an intimate universe giving rise to poetic readings of her work at first glance, then pushing the viewer to confront the complexity of societal expectations and personal identity.
Since 1986, her works have been presented in Morocco and abroad in numerous institutions and contemporary art events including; the Cairo Biennale in 1993, National Museum of Women and the arts in Washington in 1997, Kerava Museum in Finland in 2003, Art Fair in Brussels and Marrakech in 2010, and many others.
